false start

Well starting the Daniel fast on Tuesday failed.

1st when I woke up I forgot

2nd I am looking more into what to eat and meals and such in an effort to make it more natural and planned out what to eat soo I am not frantically looking for food when it is time.

3rd and finally I want to make it more intentional. The spiritual side of it. What am I going to do different here...so thinking and praying about that too.

So Monday it is.

Daniel Fast

I've been hearing a lot about this idea of fasting.
Specifically the Daniel Fast.
I am at a point in my life where a lot needs to change and I need God to be a significant part of it. Never in my life have I been so indecisive or lost in my thoughts before.
So the point is I am using this to blog about my experience. I am not looking to advertise what I am doing but more so journal about what God is doing in my life through this journey.
Fasting is a new idea for me. I've only done it once in my life. My plan for this is to do it for 25 days for the 25 years of my life that is my past and needs to be dealt with and not held on to or ignored. I think since it is a new thing for me I will do it in 5 day increments through out 2010.

What is the Daniel Fast:
1. Theme of the fast—fasting and prayer: Your goal in fasting is to become closer to God by voluntarily denying the demands of your flesh. Increase your prayer life during this time. Study the Scriptures with a new intensity. When the fast is over, you should have a new spiritual strength from overcoming the cravings that usually control your life and from dedicating yourself to God.

2. Following your own conscience: The precise details of your fast are between you and God. In Romans 14, the apostle Paul describes how we should relate in love to one another in the matter of what we eat or choose not to eat. He says, "Each person is free to follow the convictions of his own conscience" (Romans 14, The Message). If you fast often, you may need to turn up your fasting another level during this time. If this is your first fast, you may not be able to endure as many restrictions as someone else who fasts frequently. In the future, live a "fasted lifestyle," increasingly accommodating God and not the flesh.

3. Restricting television and entertainment. It will be difficult for you to consecrate yourself if you feed yourself on television and movies during this time.

4. Types of food included in this Daniel fast:
• Vegetables, preferably fresh or frozen vegetables. Vegetables such as potatoes, beans, and soybeans will help provide substance.
• Pure fruit juices or fruit (no sweetened drinks or sweetened fruit): apple juice, orange juice, grapefruit juice, cranberry juice
• It is advisable to take vitamin, mineral, and possibly protein supplements during the fast. You may also include various nuts to serve as a protein supplement.
Foods not included in this Daniel fast:
• Sugar and sugar products (desserts, soft drinks, etc.)
• Drinks including caffeine (coffee, tea, etc.)
• Bread, grains, and rice
• Meats, fish, poultry, dairy products, eggs
Water: Drink 8 glasses of water daily throughout the fast. This is very important.

First 5 days begins at midnight tonight (Jan 26th)

"When the natural runs out, is when the supernatural can happen..." I want my life to be a reflection of the supernatural in my life.

What is Love? Baby don't Hurt Me???

So after being in Florida all weekend and hearing about love i though i'd write something i wrote before we went and share it with whoever chooses to read this :)

My perspective on LOVE changed drastically this summer...After going to haiti and seeing extreme poverty. seriously, my life was changed...as Christians i think or perspective on love is different then most others. Our relationship with God is where our love for others comes from and sometimes it's hard for others to grasp that.

It is impossible to love God without also loving people. While
completely distinct, love for God and love for people are inseparable. God
Others Me. If I do not truly love other people, I do not love God. If I
do not truly love God, I can't possibly love other people. Therefore, I
would only love myself, and love for myself isn't even love at all.
Love. Anymore, it's lost all meaning. Love conveys vulnerability,
weakness. it's a pansy word for girly girls and fruity boys.

Just think about it: love at one point, meant bloodshed, death, ugliness and pain. it was being beaten beyond the point of recognition and tortured for no reason. That's what it took for someone to love me.I'd hardly call that fruity. I'm not saying love is to be painful, and love isn't always pretty, but it's completely selfless.
